Assumption of Risk — Adult

Participation and safety expectations for adult participants, volunteers, mentors and supporters involved in TWYA activities.

Adult participation

Adults may take part in TWYA activities as volunteers, mentors, parents, supporters, facilitators or participants. Some activities can involve ordinary physical, travel, venue or event-related risks. Adults are expected to use reasonable care and follow TWYA instructions.

Your responsibilities

  • Follow venue, activity and safeguarding instructions given by TWYA leaders.
  • Disclose relevant health, accessibility or safety information where it affects participation.
  • Use equipment appropriately and do not take unnecessary risks that could affect you or others.
  • Report accidents, near misses, hazards and safeguarding concerns promptly.
  • Do not participate while impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs or any condition that makes safe participation unreasonable.

Working around children and young people

Adults must maintain appropriate boundaries at all times. Being present at a TWYA activity does not permit private contact, photography, transport, messaging or one-to-one arrangements with a child outside TWYA's agreed procedures.

Volunteers and facilitators

Where a role requires induction, checks, training, supervision or specific approval, the adult should not begin that part of the role until TWYA confirms the relevant requirements have been completed.

Emergencies and incident reporting

In an emergency, follow the directions of the responsible TWYA lead or venue staff. Any injury, safeguarding issue or significant incident should be recorded through TWYA's appropriate reporting process as soon as practicable.

Important: This page is intended to clearly communicate TWYA's operating expectations and participant information. Where a signed consent, medical, safeguarding or legal form is required for a specific activity, the relevant TWYA form and instructions will apply.
